We get our first proper dragon battle in House of the Dragon Season 2, Episode 4 titled “The Red Dragon and the Gold.” As a result, we say farewell to Rhaenys and her dragon Meleys in what is the second season’s best episode so far.
In this episode discussion, we discuss the importance of knowing episode titles before hitting play on an episode (note: we mistakenly call this episode “Dance of Dragons”). It’s not like we defend Criston Cole, but the man is only two weeks into his job and he let the king die … how does someone fumble so hard multiple weeks in a row???
We also mourn King Aegon, though his fate remains up in the air. We had a lot to talk about this episode, which we both consider the best of the season so far. House of the Dragon is already halfway through this season and things are getting juicy.
“The Red Dragon and the Gold” was written by Ryan J. Condal and directed by Alan Taylor. It stars Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Matthew Needham, Sonoya Mizuno, Tom Glynn-Carney, Ewan Mitchell, Phia Saban, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, and Phoebe Campbell.
Katey is co-founder and tv editor for InBetweenDrafts. She hosts the “House of the Dragon After Show” and “Between TV” podcasts and can be read in various other places like Inverse and Screen Speck. She wishes desperately the binge model of tv watching would die, but still gets mad when she runs out of episodes of tv to watch.
