Outline for One Piece 1137-1139 (Spoilers!):
Introduction: We kick things off by announcing that today’s podcast is focused on One Piece chapters 1137-1139, which we consider some of the most important chapters in recent arcs.
Solo Leveling Discussion: Before we get into the One Piece chapters, I can’t help but bring up Solo Leveling season 2. I’ve been loving it, but I’m frustrated because I don’t have anyone to talk about it with. Travis suggests I can use their Discord server to share my hot takes, which sounds like a perfect solution, thanks Travis. I used to vent about these things on Twitter, but with the platform becoming chaotic, I’m glad to have a place to discuss anime again. Yay!
Cover Story Overview: We quickly touch on the cover story in the manga, focusing on Yamato and Tama’s adventure, and speculate about the identity of new characters like Who’s Who. We also dig into the history of the giants and the complex politics surrounding Elbaf and the World Government.
Who’s Who vs. Rob Lucci: Travis and I have a fun back-and-forth on who would win in a fight between Who’s Who and Rob Lucci. I’m leaning toward Lucci winning easily, but Travis points out that it would take an awakened form for Lucci to win, which sparks some interesting debate.
Chapter 1137 Summary: I dive deep into the first of the three chapters we’re covering, Chapter 1137. There’s a lot going on, especially with the lore:
- Luffy, Zoro, Nami, and Road explore a castle and uncover remnants of a brutal battle involving giants, learning more about the ancient giants’ bloodlines.
- We learn about King Harald’s history, his removal of his horns, and how that symbolized a break from the violent past of the ancient giants.
- I also note the reveal that Hajruddin and Loki are half-brothers, which adds a whole new layer of complexity to their relationship.
Chapter 1138 Overview: In Chapter 1138, the tension continues:
- Loki confronts Shamrock, who reveals his surprising connection to Shanks as his younger twin brother. This is a huge revelation, and we speculate about how this fits into the broader story.
- Shamrock’s power is also showcased through his sword with a Cerberus Devil Fruit. I think fans will be buzzing over how this could compare to Mihawk’s abilities.
- Meanwhile, Robin and Frankie continue to explore crucial history, with Robin digging into the Harley Scriptures and Frankie learning more about the Adam Tree and the possible end of the world.
Chapter 1139 Breakdown: Chapter 1139 introduces a major figure in the One Piece universe—Scopper Gaban, a former member of the Roger Pirates. I talk about how his challenge to Luffy mirrors the relationship between Luffy and the other members of the original Monster Trio, cementing his legendary status in the One Piece world.
Shamrock’s Design and Backstory: We discuss Shamrock’s design, and we can’t help but point out that he looks like a nod to Master Roshi. Travis can’t decide whether this was always the plan or if Oda made changes after the passing of Akira Toriyama. I also start speculating about Shamrock’s connection to Shanks, and my theory about Shanks being cloned at some point is still alive and kicking in my mind.
Ancient World Theories: This is when we really get into some of our own theories. We speculate that the early One Piece world may have been industrialized, and we tie this into the environmental themes seen in the series. The serpent motifs are interesting to me because they resonate with Caribbean folklore, which influences a lot of the One Piece world. I start connecting the dots, thinking about how the first world’s greed and the resulting destruction could play into the series’ themes of colonization and myth-making.
Mural Speculation: The mural uncovered by Robin and Frankie in Chapter 1138 is full of symbolism. We really dive into the implications of the Sun God, Earth God, and Forest God, and how these figures might be tied to the ancient weapons—Poseidon, Uranus, and Pluton. There’s so much to unpack here, and we’re starting to see connections between the ancient gods and the powers that are shaping the story.
Joy Boy and the Will of D: We get excited about the “Will of D” connection in the mural. This is a huge piece of the puzzle, and I’m starting to feel like we’re getting closer to understanding the true nature of Joy Boy and his connection to Luffy.
Ongoing Speculation and Theories: As we reflect on all of this, we point out how there are so many theories we haven’t even touched on. The mural’s depiction of the gods, Imu, and the sea god all point to some major revelations to come, and we’re bracing for more answers as the arc progresses.
End of Episode: No chapter next week, so we wrap things up by discussing possibilities for what to do during break week.
