It’s been a long three-year wait for Olivia Rodrigo’s latest album, and fans are undeniably happy with the result.
The 23-year-old pop artist released her latest album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love on June 12th, and has amassed praise from fans and critics alike. The album has even achieved the Best New Music distinction from music publication Pitchfork.
And while folks wait in anticipation for what the record’s first week sales will shake out to be, the information that is available for us chart watchers is looking very positive.
In a post on X, Spotify revealed that the project was the “most-streamed album in a single day in 2026 so far by a female artist,” with a subsequent tweet showcasing the 13-track project at the top of the streaming juggernaut’s global debut albums chart. Currently, K-pop megastars BTS are sitting at the top of the global album charts with their highly anticipated album AIRRANG, the group’s first after mandatory military enlistment.
The platform also highlighted that Rodrigo has nine spots on the global debut songs chart. She stands to go against Ariana Grande and her single “Hate That I Made You Love Me” from her forthcoming album Petal.
Olivia Rodrigo’s star continues to rise with a tour coming soon.
Chart projections from Hits Daily Double suggest that Rodrigo’s first-week numbers will defy initial expectations. “Olivia Rodrigo’s third album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, has a wide-open lane to #1 on this week’s HITS Top 50 with a projection today of over 400k”, the site stated on X. “..A career-best first week and significantly ahead of initial expectations.” Her previous releases, SOUR and GUTS, sold 295,000 and 302,000 units respectively.
In our review of the album, we called it the singer’s best yet, writing that “the album is a love letter to the wayward yearnings and jubilance of girlhood. All while recalling the gothic, stratospheric notes of the ’80s, from New Order, The Cure, and Devo.”
Olivia Rodrigo will embark on the Unraveled tour this fall in both North America and Europe, featuring artists Wolf Alice, Grace Ives, Devon Again, Die Spitz, and The Last Dinner Party. Check out the dates here. Rodrigo released three singles for the album this far, “Stupid Song”, “Drop Dead” and “The Cure.”
