Laois, Falin, Marcille, Chilchuk, and Senshi eat together in this key art for 'Delicious in Dungeon'

Dungeon Meshi, also known as Delicious in Dungeon, is a fantasy manga by Ryoko Kui and revolves around a guild and, you guessed it, the dungeon that they explore. The story revolves around the Laois’ Party which consists of Laois, the leader of the guild, his sister Falin, the elven mage Marcille, the halfling Chilchuk, and the dwarf Senshi. The story starts with the party battling a dragon deep within the dungeon, only to lose Falin, their provisions, and their money. Unable to let his sister go, Laois, Marcille, and Chilchuk head back into the dungeon while the rest of the party disbands. The three of them eventually meet Senshi when they attempt to cook their first meal.

The trailer does a wonderful job at highlighting the meals the audience will get to see without spoiling too much. We get to see Senshi behind the stove, Laois being Laois, and of course, Marcille freaking out about what they’re eating. The trailer also showed some of the monsters that we’ll be introduced to, but didn’t reveal too much about them. It makes me excited to see how far the first season will go and which other monsters will be revealed.

When the anime adaptation for Delicious in Dungeon was announced, I was nervous when I heard it was Studio Trigger. In my opinion, the studios’ anime are either really great or not my thing whatsoever. But from what the trailer showed us, my hopes for the anime have been restored. Yoshihiro Miyajima is leading the team behind the anime and it’s clear that he put everything into this anime.

Delicious in Dungeon is a feast filled with intriguing characters, captivating plots, and some questionable meals. The anime will premiere in January 2024, so there’s plenty of time for you to catch up on the manga before the first episode! It’s sure to be a highlight of the winter anime season.
