Author Lynn Painter

Lynn Painter knows about chemistry. Her books are full of characters whose relationship is electric. When reading romance, if you’re looking for characters who bounce off each other in the best way, I urge you to check out Lynn Painter’s books. And take a look at her favorite type of books, which feature the best chemistry and tension characters can have.

So, what are Painter’s three favorite books with toe-Curling, Butterfly-Inducing Chemistry?

I have been a fan of romantic comedy – both in cinema and literature – for as long as I can remember. There’s nothing quite like happening upon two characters as they connect in an electric way, then buckling in for the crazy ride that leads them to ultimately ending up together.

And it’s all about chemistry. Plot is important, but in romance, the crackling vibes between the two main characters is what really makes us turn those pages.

Bride by Ali Hazelwood

If you’re not reading Ali’s books, what are you even doing with your life? This was my first-ever werewolf/vampire romance (aside from Twilight), and I was not disappointed. Your honor, I’ve fallen in love with a wolfman. Honestly, Ms. Hazelwood could write a book about two tree frogs and I would be preordering that ridiculous novel SO FAST because no one writes chemistry quite like her.

Bride oozes with brooding and palpable tension and I devoured it in one sitting.

It Happened One Autumn by Lisa Kleypas

I have read and re-read this classic SO many times. The back-and-forth electricity between our headstrong main character (I love Lillian) and the reserved Lord Westcliff is like a masterclass in crafting an enemies-to-lovers romance.

I blame Lisa Kleypas for a lot of unfinished projects in my life, because when she has a new book drop, I drop everything.

Pride and Protest by Nikki Payne

The chemistry between Liza and Dorcey blazes in this Pride & Prejudice retelling. If you’re a fan of the 2015 cinematic hand-flex, this book is for you. I wanted to re-read it the second I finished because it’s got everything I loved about the original – the tension, the pining, the wow – but with a cool, modern vibe.

And a lot of steam.

Accidentally, Amy by Lynn Painter is available now in e-book, paperback and audio from Berkley.
